"Hi! I'm Alfonso." A very interesting story for an insane quest
It all started in
2000, when we moved to Sri Lanka with the family. After 30 years of
hiking in the 'west' with excellent topomaps, I was shocked not to find
decent maps for many parts of Asia. Only a couple of months after the
US govern-ment had switched of the 'noise' on all GPS signals, I arrived
in a region where there wasn't even a decent road map!
Since that time we started an insane
quest: making our own maps, based on available material (satellite
imagery, local maps, GPS tracklogs from friends) and logging all our own
trips anywhere with a GPS.
It took us 4 years to map Sri Lanka,
including street maps of some urban areas. Next came the Maldives (even
most marine maps are wrong!), then the Indian Himalayas (for which even
the famous US military maps are grossly incorrect). Currently we're
uncovering the secrets of Oman. And Nepal and (Chinese controled) Tibet
are also well under way, and some parts of Borneo are finished.
What do our customers have to say about it? Well, nothing yet: it's just hitting the market.
BUT
we did spread it to some knowledgable people, experts in the region.
See what they have to say. So if are planning a trip in an exotic place
or you are just my kind of type, all you have to do is to Click Here!
